
Licensed Building Practitioners API
The Licensed Building Practitioners API provides the ability to search and retrieve details from New Zealand Licensed Building Practitioner (LBP) register.
LBPs are designers, carpenters, brick and blocklayers, roofers, external plasterers, site and foundations specialists who have been assessed to be competent to carry out work essential to a residential building's structure or weathertightness.
Using the API

Subscribe to the API
Log in and subscribe to the Licensed Building Practitioners API Product. Our API support team may request further information before the subscription can be approved.
Generate an API subscription key and call the API
For full details on how to generate an API subscription key, and optionally an OAuth2 bearer token for additional security, please see here.
Once your subscription has been approved you will be able use your API credentials to successfully call the API. Use the sandbox key and sandbox endpoints in your software development. Once you've completed testing simply use your production keys to access the live service.
Use of the LBP register
Under section 307 of the Building Act 2004, you can’t use the information in this register for any other purpose. If you do, you are breaching the Privacy Act 2020.
Other trade professionals
The trade professionals in the table below are treated as licensed because they’re competent in specific LBP licence classes.
They’re not on the LBP register, because they have their own registration schemes. So you need to look for them in their own registers.
